CULTURED PEARLS TYPES

Pearls, they are unique gems originated by the Nature
and that does not need any treatment nor manipulation to reveal their enchantment.
Pearls are born of the Oyster, with iridesse luster and smooth internal brightness
that it is not even by any other gem of the world.
The different types from Oyster Mother, their zones of development, cultured types,
they are key to understand the great diversity of Pearls.

CULTIVE TYPES

Throughout history the pieces littler than produce the Nature as they can be
a perfect crystal, a little metal or round and great pearl, they have been the coveted
pieces more reaching unsuspected values.

The size of pearl hardly will be great because pearl in himself it is an aggression
towards the same alive being who develops it, getting to produce the death to him.
Pearl hardly will be round, the roundness of pearl is lost in any phase of his growth
by the appearance of as habitual conditions as changes of temperature,
currents or tides.

The preference and high price on pearls, and the natural difficulty to obtain them,
has originated different types from cultive in which the man takes part to facilitate
the generation of the pearl in the Mother Oyster.

The scientific base of the techniques used for the culture of the Oyster,
as much for Oyster from fresh water like of salt water, has their origins at
the end of century XIX - by the Australian biologist William Saville Kent -,
giving rise to different types from cultive.

Biological Nucleation
Cultive

It consists of a cultive by natural means where the man causes
the beginning of the generation of pearl by means of the implantation
of small organic bodies, or small pearls, which they are deposited
inside the Ostra that causes the beginning to them of the nacre
sedimentation on her, being generated therefore the Pearl.

The periods of culture oscillate of between one and eight years.
This technique is used mainly with the Oysters that generates
PEARLS FRESHWATER, SEA SOUTH PEARLS(AUSTRALIAN),
CHINESE PEARLS BLACK TAHITIANAS and SALT WATER PEARLS
,
and has by turn out to pearl with high thickness in nacre,
and great sizes, as well as diversity in the forms.

Synthetic Nucleation
Cultive

In this type of cultive man action consists of inserting a synthetic nucleus,
size between 5 to 10 mm that will serve as it bases for the successive
nacre layers, and with the only aim to obtain round pearl.

The periods of cultive oscillate between the year and the three years.
Longer periods productive do not have that near 80% of the nucleadas
shells they do not survive to produce to pearls.

This technique has been developed exclusively in Japan, so that the JAPANESE totality of pearl destined to the Jewelry shop during the
last decades has been almost generated of is form.

Obtained pearls are characterized by its roundness, luster, inferior
size to 10 mm and under thickness in nacre, reason why they require
of a fine maintenance

PEARLS TYPES

FRESHWATER CULTURED PEARL

Freshwater Pearl Cultive is extended in
Japan, China and the United States, and are obtained
from Ostra Ikekou - Unio Margaretafera Oyster -
of water candy, that can produce ten or more pearls
simultaneously, white, of different colors and forms.
They require a time of culture between one and
eight years.

Before ´90 they were considered pearl small
and with irregular forms, grain type of rice.
From ´90 the Freshwater pearls have
increased its quality drastically, thanks to
advances in the techniques of cultives and
proliferation in China, becoming a real
alternative to Akoya pearlsl, classic in
markets next to other more select types like
to Black Tahitianas pearls, Australian Pearls.

Freshwater perls are characterized by his
high nacre level, diversity of forms, colors
and sizes, arriving to reach 16 mm.

JAPANESE CULTURED PEARL

They come from the Ostra Akoya - Fucata Pinctada -
of salt water, and it is cultured in Japan.
This is the most difficult growth pearl,
due to the techniques of Culture with nucleation
Synthetic that is used.
Approximately single a 5% of the spherical implantations of
great size ends up generating to pearl of quality, size over
7 mm and almost perfect roundness.

The great size of you implant reduces them his
time of culture to less of year and means,
necessary time so that the Oyster covers
the strange body that has been inserted to him
with two or three nacre layers.

These pearls are characterized by almost
perfect roundness and intense shine with
tones that vary according to cultive process,
obtaining varieties of the whitet, rose
and cream.

A special care with these must be had
with these pearls because they are more sensible
to the friction and attack of agents like the beauty
products and perfums.

CHINESE CULTURED PEARL

Like Japanese pearls, they come from the Ostra Akoya
of salt water. The Chinese farms come being developed
during the last decade, but without reaching levels of technical
development similar to the Japanese, reason why obtained
natural pearls they distan of the presence of the
obtained ones by the Japanese industry.
The levels of production and commercialization
of this type of per it are still low.

PERLA DEL MAR DEL SUR (AUSTRALIANAS)

This one is a type of magnificent and exceptional Pearl.

They are cultured in salt waters of north Australia
and Southeastern of Asia by the Ostra Pinctada Maxima .

They emphasize by its silver-plated and golden shine,
reaching so large between 9 and 28 mm.
The times of Cultive oscillate from two to the eight years.

TAHITIAN BLACK PEARL

Cultured mainly in salt waters of French Polynesia,
and not in Tahití as its name indicates, these pearls
are not always black. Therefore, its range of colors extends
from the grays with green, oranges, magenta or golden,
to most intense blue cobalt.

They are cultured in waters tempered by the Pinctada Oyster
Margaritifera. The time of cultive is of two to three years.
The level of survival of the Oysters is low, and the great
majority of pearls generated has important imperfections
in its surface, reason why pearls obtained without defect
reachs high values in the market of the jewelry shop.
The size of these per them oscillates from the 8 to 18 mm.

MABE PEARLS

This type of pearls forms when one - or more half-round
nucleus (of shell or plastic) are stuck to the Oyster shell , underneath the mantle of the organism. The Oyster reaction
before this "intruder" is the secretion of numerous
nacre layers, like defense means.

After a period of culture of 6 to 24 months (depending on
the species and the place), ostra is harvested.

The average pearls are subject to the shell, reason
why there will be necessity "to release them" by means
of a processing: they stand out with special tools, the nucleus
is removed - reason why only an average hollow nacre
sphere is conserved and the hollow fills up with epoxy resin.
Finalized east process, a small piece of shell nacre subjects
to the back part. Of this form, an average one pearl is already
ready to be mounted in jewelry shop. Mabe Pearl is relatively
easy to obtain, reason why they have a smaller price relative
to the one of free or round pearls.
Nevertheless, they get to reach higher prices when one
is beautiful pieces of high quality.

IMITATION PEARLS

Imitation pearls are artificial products, fruit of a productive process that
generates thousands of identical products. In most of the cases, a crystal grain
submerges in a solution done of derivatives of the fish. The layer on the crystal that
is generated usually is fine and has an aspect similar to natural pearl.

An imitation can be identified biting the sphere. False pearl slide through the teeth,
whereas in the authentic ones finishing is appraised sandy. Imitation pearl are known
by many names. Some of these names, unfortunately, are used to deceive the consumer.
The words "fashionable", "style", "false","faux", "simulated", "organic", "from Majorca"
or other names.
