Where It All Began
Every time we think of our grandfather, we feel a mix of pride and gratitude. He was a visionary, a man who wasn’t content with what the world offered him. In his time, pearls were an almost unattainable luxury, reserved only for a select few. But our grandfather saw something more, something no one else did: the possibility that these beautiful gems could be accessible to everyone.
When he discovered the first freshwater pearls, he knew he was facing a unique opportunity. Without hesitation, he packed his bags and embarked on a journey to Asia, a journey that would change the pearl market forever. He met the first freshwater pearl farmers—men and women who shared his dream of doing something different. Together, they worked for years, perfecting the quality of these pearls, and little by little, his dream began to take shape. It was then that Operla started to take root, with a clear mission: to bring the beauty of pearls to everyone, no matter who they were or where they lived.
The year 2000 arrives, and Operla is born... and so are we.
Our parents grew up with the same passion as our grandfather. They didn’t just continue his legacy—they expanded it, taking it to places he could never have imagined. It was a time of boundless creativity, where every pearl that came into their hands was transformed into a unique piece, a jewel that spoke for itself.
In 2003, they launched the first jewelry collections under the Operla brand, and success quickly followed. It excites us to think about how our pieces began to shine in jewelry store windows around the world, bringing a piece of our family to every corner of the globe. But most importantly, through it all, they never forgot our grandfather’s vision: that pearls should be accessible to everyone, without ever losing their authenticity or magic.
